Production

The shoot went off as planned with some minor glitches. Norman and Janice came to my house and I filmed them after dinner. It was a little stressful to have a nice quiet dinner, then make them sit in another room while I set up, and then record back in the dining room. I wasn’t as relaxed/focused as I would have wanted since I was flying out the next day because Hospice had called my family home for my Dad.

Here are some shots of the equipment:

Glitches:

The main glitch was audio. Though I am a big fan of setting everything up ahead of time and trying a dry run, I ran out of time. I knew I had the XLR cables, the batteries and all the power cords, so I thought I was set. HOWEVER, it turned out the the Marantz used a different type of battery – so I had to improvise on the fly. I changed the setup to use the Lavalier mics on Norman and Janice and have the receivers plug directly into each of their closeup cameras. I used the boom mic and plugged it into the wide shot camera. Now, each of the cameras had a dedicated audio that would be included in the media instead on having one audio track that would be synced after the fact. Because of that, I have had to adjust the audio in post for each individual audio track.
